TRIVIA
• The director said when Garrett Hedlund dropped out three weeks before shooting began, he was given a list of six actors he could potentially choose from, three he dropped immediately. He went on to choose Skarsgard because of a YouTube video he saw of him drunk at a football match, in which he’s trying to whip the rest of the crowd in a frenzy as he thought they were being too quiet. He thought this made him perfect for the role of Terry.
• The quotation, “All oppression creates a state of war,” is by Simone de Beauvoir, from The Second Sex (1949), her most famous work.
• Even though Alexander Skarsgård plays an ordinary cop in this film, he anachronistically sports a highly sculpted physique with rippling eight-pack abs in the film. Skarsgard said that it was completely unintentional and not how the character was written in the script. The reason was that he came to set directly after finishing Tarzan (2016) and did not have enough time to get rid of his abs even though he had stopped working out and dieting as before.
• Filmed in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
• In the scene at the members only club Alexander Skarsgård orders a bloody mary and says “the bloodier the better.” This is likely a reference to True Blood (2008) where he played the vampire Eric.
